Copyright Law
A copyright comes into existence as soon as a original published or unpublished literary, dramatic, artistic, cinematographic or sound recording work is created. The rights under Copyright law granted to the creator of the work include exclusive right of reproduction of the work, communication of the work to the public, adapt of translation of the work. The Copyright law in India can be traced back to 1914 when the Indian Copyright Act, 1914 was created. The Indian Copyright Act, 1914 is still applicable for works creared prior to 21.01.1958 (when the current legislation came into force). The current legislation governing copyright in India is the Copyright Act, 1957, which was last amended in 2012.
India is a member of the Berne Convention, the Universal Copyright Convention, the Rome Convention and the Agreement of Trade Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights (TRIPS).
